The food industry traditionally plays an important role in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is characterised by a large number of efficient medium-sized companies and a high-quality diverse range of products. Currently 14400 employees work in 86 companies with a staff of more than 50. The share of the food industry of the total sales of manufacturing industries amounts to approximately 33%. Some of the most important production sectors in Rostock County are meat processing, milk processing, fish processing and beverage production.
